If ever there was a moment of
total transformation, it was the moment of your birth. In that
instant, you stepped through a door
in time into a new reality-the reality of human life. You left
behind the memory of what was before, and entered the physical
realm in
the purest condition: untouched by this world; not yet influenced;
not yet inhibited; and free of concepts, expectations, judgments,
and self-consciousness. (Small wonder that every-
body around you instantly fell in love with you!)
Yet, even at that moment, you were a person with your own unique
character, as unique as your DNA. Everything that is you existed
in potential, much like a play that is about to begin.
Your life is indeed like a play. Birth is the raising of the
curtain; death the curtain's descent. The play has evolved through
various stages of preparation, but does not really begin until
you are born. When all the players go on stage, they have been
prepared for their parts. Their characters are outlined, and
the stage is set. At the moment the curtain is raised, the play
itself exists as a potential within the characters, the director,
the musicians, and the audience.
In the same way, the moment of your birth provides that broad
outline for your life. Your entire life exists as a potential
that has been prepared for. You have ultimate freedom to do with
your life as you like: to fulfill its potential completely, or
to make some smaller version of yourself. It all depends upon
your effort and commitment. You make the decisions to fulfill,
to whatever extent, the potential life that exists within you.
That is your choice. In this sense, the possible you is implicit
during the moment of your birth.
The Life Path Number
The most important number in your numerology chart is based on
the date of your birth, the moment when the curtain goes up in
your life. This number is called the Life Path number. It can
be compared to the plot of a potential play. The Life Path number
gives us a broad outline of the opportunities, challenges, and
lessons we will encounter in this lifetime.
How to Find Your Life Path Number
Your Life Path number is the sum of the month of your birth,
plus the day of your birth, plus the year of your birth.
To find your Life Path number,
begin by turning the month, day, and year of your birth into
single digit numbers. For example,
let's say you were born on December 25, 1964. December is the
twelfth month of the year. To turn
12 into a single-digit number add the 1 and the 2 of 12 to get
the 3. December is therefore a 3 month.
To turn the twenty-fifth day into a single-digit number, add
the 2 and the 5 of 25 to arrive at 7. The number 25 is therefore
a 7.
To turn 1964 into a single-digit number, add the 1 + 9 + 6 +
4 to get 20. Then add the 2 and the 0 of 20 to get 2.
Now, to find your Life Path number, add these three single-digit
numbers together. In the example, I add the 3, 7, and 2 (3 +
7 + 2) and arrive at 12. The 12 is reduced to 3 by adding 1 and
2.
Another way to illustrate these steps is as follows:
December = 12 (the twelfth month) = 1+ 2 |
= |
3 |
25 (the twenty-fifth day) = 2 + 5 |
= |
7 |
1964 = 1 + 9 + 6 + 4 = 20; 20 = 2 + 0 |
= |
2 |
Total |
|
12
=1 + 2 =3 |
The Life Path number is 3.
The only correct way of arriving at the Life Path number is
by turning the month, day, and year of your birth into single-digit
numbers first, and then adding the three single digits together.
Never add the three whole numbers
(12 + 25 + 1964).
Only by adding single-digit numbers
can you accurately arrive at the Master numbers (11 and 22) that
may be in your chart.
As explained in Chapter 1, Master numbers are the only two-digit
numbers that are not reduced to single-digits when calculating
the chart.
For example, let's say you were born on May 29, 1948. Using
the correct way of calculating the Life Path number, we would
do the following:
May is the 5th month
|
=
|
5
|
|
29 = 2 + 9
|
=
|
11
|
(Eleven is a Master number,
and it is not reduced.) |
1948 = 1 + 9 + 4 + 8
|
=
|
22
|
(This is, again a Master number,
and thus not reduced.) |
Total
|
|
38
|
38
= 3 + 8 = 11 |
A Life Path of 11 is a Master number, and it is not reduced.
The wrong method of calculating the Life Path is to total the
whole numbers first, and then reduce. This results in an incorrect
Life Path number.
The example illustrates this point:
May
|
=
|
5
|
29
|
=
|
29
|
1948
|
=
|
1948
|
Total
|
|
1982
|
1982 = 1 + 9 + 8 + 2 = 20; 20 is reduced to 2 by adding 2 +
0.
Using this method, the Life Path would be 2, not 11. You would
have missed the Master number.
In my lectures, I often encounter people who go to great lengths
to manipulate the math in order to place a Master number in their
chart. This is based on a misunderstanding of the Master numbers.
Master numbers are extremely challenging
for those who have them in their charts. They are highly paradoxical
in nature.
On one hand, they connote great potential, and the presence of
some highly developed ability. On the other hand, they represent
a great deal of inner tension, which originates from a deep desire
to achieve some high ideal. The presence of a Master number suggests
the influence of an archetype, or a highly
focused energy, that directs one's life toward a goal.
The term Master number is not
given to the 11 and 22 because they are masters in the family
of numbers, but because they symbolize
the presence of a powerful Energy within the psyche of the individual.
Because that energy is so powerful, it can easily take control
of a person's life. In effect, it becomes the person's master.
It is the challenge of the individual with the master number
to take charge of that energy, and to use it according to your
own choices.
Understanding and using a Master number is a gradual process,
and it is usually not until maturity is reached that you take
full control of your Master number. It is at this point that
the Master number becomes truly rewarding.
