| Bloodstone |
 It
is also known as Pitoria or Hermatite. It is a darkgreen stone, spotted with
red. The stone
is expected to have unrecalled power of staunching wounds and curing all
Kinds of complaints where in there was loss of blood. The best effect was
atttained when the stone was first dipped in cold water and then held by
the patient in his right hand. To cure the bleeding of the nose, the stone
is suspended from the neck. Bloodstone preserved the faculties and bodily
health of the wearer, brought his consideration and respect and guarded
him form deception. If the herb heliotrope is applied to the stone, it
so dazzles the eyes of the beholder that the bearer or the wearer of the
stone becomes invisible. |
| Carbuncle |
It
is just like a garnet except that it is round in shape. The ancients supposed
this stone to give out a native light without reflection, and they ranked
it fifth in order after diamonds, emeralds, opals and pearls. It is among
the gems ruled by the Sun, and is both male and female the former distinguished
by the brightness which appears as if burning within it, while the latter
throws it out. It takes no colour from any other gem applied to it, but
imparts its own.
Strange tales were told of a luminous "carbuncle" and it was said to
emit fiery rays at night. The carbuncle was recommended as a heart stimulant;
indeed, so powerful was its action, that the wearers were rendered angry
and passionate and were even warned to be on their guard against attacks
of apoplexy. In mythical fancies, too, this stone played its part, for
dragon's eyes were said to be carbuncles. |
| Cat's Eye |
 It
belongs to the family of crysoberyl and agate. It is found in white, red,
yellow and chocolate
colours. The moonstone, the star-sapphire, the star-ruby and the cat's
eye are all gems that possess a moving light, a moving line, or three
crossed
lines, and they are believed by the orientals to be gems of good luck.
It is supposed in the East that a living spirit dwells within these stones a
spirit potent for good. No gems have afforded more interest to the oriental peoples
than those that are known as phenomenal gems, that is, such as exhibit a phenomenal
quality, either as a moving line as in the chrysoberyl cat's eye or the quartz
cat's eye, or as a star, a class represented by star-sapphire and the star-ruby.
All these are fibers of asbestos in cat's eye and, in tiger's eye similar fibres
of crocidolite, a stone shows a
shing line, moving in the direction of light. |
| Chrysocolla ( Lapis Lingua ) |
 It
has certain similarities to Azurite as it has to Malachite. Chrisocolla occurs
in blue or greenish
blue hard masses. It is interesting that it contains the compound borax.
The therapeutic and beneficial effects of borax are certainly recognised
today. It has a magic reputation in the world of healing gemmologist, who uses
them
in occult and mystical healing. |
| Chrysolite ( Oliveine or Peridot ) |
 It
is transparent and available in various colours. According to its colour
it gets its name.
In deep green colour it is known as peridot, and in olive green colour
it gets its name as olivine. A stone is yellowish-green in hue to exert its
full
power, required to be set in gold, worn in this way it dispelled the vague
terrors of the night. If however, it were to be used as a protection from
the wiles of evil spirits, the stone had to be pierced and strung on the
hair of an ass and then attached to the left arm. The belief in the virtue
of the chrysolite to dissolve enchantments and to put evil spirits to flight
was probably due to the association of the stone with the Sun, before whose
life-giving rays, darkness and all the powers of darkness are driven away.
It is transparent and has many colours ranging from yellowish green to
dull yellowish white. It is ruled by Venus and Mercury. Some of its virtues
are enumerated below: |
-
The wearer does not have bad dreams and is saved from the attack of ghosts
andevil spirits.
-
The wearer becomes a contented man.
-
Its gives power of oratory.
-
Its effects are miracculous in cases of arthritis and gout.
The accused is saved of the death sentence if he keeps it in
his mouth. This however, appears to be a gross exaggeration.

Note
Those, who have Sun in Virgo or Pisces at the time of their birth,
should not wear it. (Venus gets debilitated in Virgo and Mercury in Pisces).
Corall It has been used from the earliest times in medicine and magic.
It has all the usual properties of curing almost everything
by external or internal use, or merely by being worn. It also protects
against many evils, including witch-craft, and evil-eye and sterility.
To exercise all its power against spells, or enchantments, coral must be
worn where its brilliant colour makes it conspicious; if, however it should
by accident be broken, the separate pieces have no virtue and the magic
power ceases, as thought the spirit dwelling in the coral fled from its
abode. A kind of vital force is believed to animate the material, gaining
or losing in vigour.

| Crystal |
 It
prevents against unpleasant dreams, dissolves enchantments, and is a medium
for magical
visions. Being bruised with honey, it fills the breasts with milk. Leonardius
appears to have indulged a little spite against this beautiful
mineral."The principal use of crystal", he says, "is for making cups, rather
than anything else that is good". It is also called sphatik in Hindi. It
is opaque and white clear like ice.It was suppored that by gazing at around
ball of crystal the person could know his future. The main virtue of it is
that the rays of Sun reflected by crystal are a panacea for all eye troubles.
These reflected rays should fall only on the body and not in the eyes. |
Note
It is not to be worn by those who have there Sun in Aries or Libra.
The other gemes that are not to be worn in such a situation are pearl,
moon-stone, cat's eye and emerald.
