Pearl
Pearl is considered the Moon gem. It has different
names in different languages, e.g. moti, mukta, shashi
ratna, etc. It is chiefly of white colour, but there are also
found pearls with light yellowness or light pinkness.
Pearl is not a mineral gem but an organic gem. Like coral,
pearl too is formed in the sea bed by sea oyster.
There is a sea creature called sea oyster. This
creature lives in a shell, in other words, shell is the house
for an oyster. It is said that pearl takes birth when a drop
enters its mouth in the Swati constellation.
The scientific explanation
to the birth of pearl is that
when a foreign particle enters an oyester, it starts
covering it with saliva which results into the birth of
pearl.
Pearl is found in the Persian Gulf, Sri Lanka,
Venezuela, Mexico, Australia, and the Bay of Bengal. It
is also found in South Indian state of Tamil Nadu
(Tuticorin) and Bihar (Darbhanga). The most number of
pearls are produced in China and Japan. There is a
special method of producing pearls in China and Japan.
The best quality is 'Basra pearl' found in the Persian
Gulf.
Attributes and Advantages of Wearing Pearl
Its chief characteristic
is that it is found in its natural
form. Whatever the form, whether round, oval or oblique ,
is found from the oyester, and is made available in that
original form. It is neither cut nor polished like other
gems. At the most, holes are pierced into it to make it a
bead for a rosary .Pearl is by nature cool and helps pacify anger
and it also does away with mental tension.
