Chakras
Chakra is a Sanskrit
term that means "wheel
of light." There are seven major chakra energy centers
located in the physical body . In addition, the physical
body
contains 122 secondary chakras, found wherever a bone
touches another bone (joint), or by a nerve plexus.
Chakras have been known for a very
long time. The
ancient Greek mystery schools of Delphi and Eleusis, as
well as the rituals of the Hermetic and the early Christians,
incorporated chakra practices. These energy centers have
been described by the Theosophists Annie Besant and C.
W. Leadbeater, as well as by the Arcane Theosophical School
founder Alice Bailey. It is from the latter's writing that the
term "New Age" was derived.
A chakra may not be open or closed
as such, since it is constantly spinning and recycling energy. It
is always"
open," but may be blocked. The flow of energy is restricted
in a blocked chakra, and this can lead to energy imbalance,
disease, and a vulnerability to psychic attack. |
