1. Well in the South-East Direction
This flaw is interpreted as an obstruction to the fire element (Agni tatva) and is associated with the annihilation of offsprings which is foretold on the basis of horoscope casting practices, in which fifth house (progeny, etc.) is placed seventh from eleventh house governed by the South-East direction. A well in the South-East direction is treated as a primary defect since rise towards South- East is mandatory in Vastushastra. Negative effects of a Vastu get accentuated through this flaw. No relief is available, not even after planting of trees selected for the South-East direction by the Avakahada Chakra. A minor amelioration is possible by acquiring additional land on South-East side to mimic an effect of excess South-East and relative loading of South-East direction. The best solution is to cap the well.

2. Excess South-East Corner
This flaw can be remedied through the construction of a water fountain in the South-East side corner to counter the exessive fire element. The other solution is to plant trees, having divine affinity for the North - West direction or the water element in the South - East. It is possible to subtract the excessive South - East by providing a square fencing to the courtyard.

3. Truncated South-East
This type of deficiency has to be countered very carefully. All the remedies required for increasing the fire element have to be employed to get the requisite relief.

A few examples are:

a) planting of trees having divine affinity for the South-East direction, in that direction.

b) painting the internal walls of the Vastu on the South-East side with colour shades indicated in the Shri Ranga Chakra.

c) loading the available space between the East and the South directions.

d) providing a fireplace in the tiny space between the East and the South sides, as per the dictates of Uccha Ushna Jyoti Chakra.

4. South-East Vidhishula
The remedy for this flaw is to provide the main entrance on the North-East side, as per the recommendations of Dwar Nivesh Phal. The intense energy stress on account of Vidhishula can be reduced by raising the South-east corner height. Provision of a pond or a water fountain or an open water surface in the North-East proves helpful. By reinforcing the good qualities of the other directions, the effects of South-East deficiency should be relatively reduced without attempting any direct changes in the South-East direction.

South Direction
The sun in this direction takes the form of Yama (Lord of Death) as per the Vastu Purush Mandal. The sun from its position in the Southern skies, during the mid-noon 1100-1430 hrs emits intense energy with the scorching heat spreading throughout the atmosphere. Vedic scriptures invoke this direction through the mantra ( Hindi word) (Dakshinayye Dishe Yamay Namah).

The interruption of electromagnetic flux lines, combination of cosmic rays and radiation particles, uneven magnetic field due to thermal imbalance and fierce hot sun results in amalgamation of all the destructive forces and energies which are undesirable from Vastushastra point of view.

Jyotishshastra treats South as the abode of Shani (Saturn) and has assigned the sign Makara (Capricorn) to that direction. Kal-Purush-Kundli ascribes tenth house to the South direction. As such, the following events are foretold -loss of employment, closure of business, unstability , social disgrace, political failure, insomnia, father becoming a drunkard, loss of paternal protection, etc. The net result is directly influenced by the nature of deficiencies in the Vastu.

1. Ground level sloping towards the South
A rise towards the South generally implies added gravitational mass acting as a catalyst to regulate excessive uncontrolled energy. As against this, a slope towards the South creates imbalance in energy-mass equivalence. This flaw can be rectified by loading the South side of the plot in the landscaping itself. The compound wall on the South border should be thick and high. Apart from this, to control the atmospheric temperatures, trees which exhale water vapour, such as audumber and neem, should be planted on the South border of the plot.

2. South Vyaghra
This is a major flaw as per the Vastushastra. By referring to the sketch we can observe that the flux lines originating from the North direction get concentrated on a smaller surface in the South direction. This stress accentuation, deadly energy fluctuations induced by hot atmospheric conditions in the South, and cosmic rays acting in consonence with radioative particles give a death-like (Yamasthan) characteristic to South Vyaghra plots. To escape this type of situation, all the proven principles of Vastushastra have to employed:

a) The South should effectively be loaded through gravitational mass at the landscaping stage.

b) Audumber and neem family trees should be planted in the South direction.

c) Wherever possible, the plot should be trimmed suitably.

d) The South side wall of the Vastu should have a two-feet-thick stone construction with no openings for windows, doors, ventilators or otherwise.

e) A floor should be added on the South side.

f) A cavity wall should be provided on the South side.

After implementing these remedial actions, the character of the Vastu should be closely monitored for a few days. If necessary , characteristic virtues of other directions should also be enhanced.
